The Guild meets every second Saturday at 9:30 am in the Parish Hall
President 2011-12: Victoria Loggins
The Women’s Guild of Saint Paul the Apostle is a spiritual, social and service ministry for all women in the Parish. Our guild promotes fellowship and service within our church community. Every women who is a member of Saint Paul the Apostle belongs to the Women’s Guild. Monthly meetings present opportunities to meet new friends and get reacquainted with old ones. The many and varied programs of service include running the sale of Religious Articles, providing food for Funeral Receptions, annual Confirmation and First Communion Masses, assisting the Knights of Columbus with holiday celebrations and Lenten Dinners following the Stations of the Cross, coordinating the annual Fall Festival and the Prayer Blanket Lock-In, hosting a luncheon/tea for the women of our Parish and neighboring Parishes, putting together a Parish Cookbook, assisting with the Parish Directory, as well as other service and social activities. We realize everyone’s time is limited, but there is something for everyone to assist with all year long.
CONGRATULATIONS TO BEV FARKUS, WOMAN OF THE YEAR!!
Beverly Farkus was nominated by the Women’s Guild for its annual award for Woman of the Year. Any woman of the parish is eligible to be nominated.
A member of the parish since 2004 (after 27 years in Stuart, FL), anyone who knows Beverly Farkus knows some of her most productive and creative time is spent in her kitchen. To that end, she decided to increase the profits of our fall festival by spending many hours preserving jams, salsas and other products in the leftover Mason jars from our building fund. Recruiting other women to help her, Bev made over 60 jars of food herself. She contributed over a dozen special homemade goodies for the fall festival bake sale. A meeting or reception isn’t complete without something from Bev’s kitchen, which she happily volunteers. Looking for more ways to earn money for our parish, she dove headfirst into her collection of craft magazines, ideas she snipped from other resources, and her own imagination to come up with crafts to make and sell at the Festival. Using her own supplies, she encouraged other women to come by, help themselves to materials, and help her make some beautiful and practical things for our booth. Bev also took the time to make flyers and bulletin announcements, and helped our Fall Festival Chairperson with phone calls and other duties, which helped make her job a bit easier.
Bev, along with husband Andy, took care of the raffle tickets for the Fall Festival. They ordered them, put them in bundles of 20 per person, and then labeled envelopes for every registered parishioner to get a packet. She sold tickets after Masses and got other volunteers to help, collected all sold tickets and money, kept track of sales, and made sure all tickets were accounted for.
Part of Bev’s job as church administrative assistant was welcoming others into the parish. Many new parishioners, as well as ministry leaders and volunteers, have mentioned Bev’s warm and welcoming attitude at the front desk. She also took pains, if she saw newly-registered parishioners at Mass, to introduce them to others, and invite them to parish events. Always interested in serving, she volunteered the past 5 years as parish council secretary.
